So you want to present a poster? EXCELLENT CHOICE!

1. Pick a general interest area (e.g., alcohol and sexual response, discordance of self-report and genital sexual arousal). It may be helpful to do a preliminary literature search to get some ideas.

2. Tell me (Nikky) the topic, so I can offer what kind of data we might have about your interest area

3. Look at the data to focus your topic to something manageable

4. Find a conference with a reasonable submission date (many meetings have abstracts due over six months in advance!)

5. Perform a literature search to get an idea of what a good hypothesis might be

6. We will talk about how to test your idea within the stats training that you have had so far (or a reasonable extension).

7. You run the test with my help.

8. We write up an abstract (usually just a paragraph) summarizing why you made your predictions and the results of the tests.

9. Submit it. Bombs away!

10. If it's accepted, I will send you some past posters to get you started and help you polish.

Prepare for graduate school success.
